HIGHER ACHIEVEMENT ECS has started a "higher achievement" goal for 6-12 graders. Any students not earning a C or above in their core classes will grab their lunches and head to the computer lab to get caught up on work. We are hopeful that this will encourage and support students in achieving higher and trying harder! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
OUTDOOR SCHOOL 5th and 6th Grade Parents: Outdoor school is done and in the books! If you would like to provide feedback, please contact OMSI directly. Thank you for trusting your kids with us, it was a blast!
TESTING! We will be taking the Smarter Balanced English Language Arts test on on April 30- May 3 in the morning. Please make sure your student is well rested, eats a good breakfast and brings their A-Game to school! Let me know if you need anything from me to help your child be more prepared for this week!
CONFERENCES Conferences will be Thursday, April 26 from 4pm-8pm. This will be walk-in style- please show up anytime from 4pm to 8pm for conferences. Each class should run about 10 minutes long.
April General Happenings All English Classes: Testing strategies; Grammar and Mechanics practice (sentence structure, formal American English vs. slang; parts of speech); Finishing Argumentation and starting novel unit: reading beyond the text.
April- May Book Studies All Grades: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, reading guide on google docs; In class Socratic Seminars discussing narrative, dialogue and literary elements of high-engagement books.
We just started using John Norlin's Character Strong Curriculum in Leadership. It is an amazing program that teaches real leadership- relationships being the main focus. Visit the Character Strong blog for thought-provoking posts and to get insight into our new program!
This month we are: teaching and enforcing the concept of the month: RESPECT! Kids are mentoring our younger kids as well!
Special thanks to our School Improvement group on Drugs who brought in two inmates to talk about their experiences with drugs in society. Upcoming improvement groups will focus on cyber bullying, kindness and metal health.
