Eddyville’s African drumming class is generating a lot of positive publicity for our school as well as giving the students a chance to perform in public at schools, festivals, and here at Eddyville.
So far this year we have performed at the Open House, on KBVR TV (OSU ), at the Consumer’s Power annual picnic, and the Summit Festival in August..
Upcoming shows in December will be the Festival of Trees in Newport (Sunday, December 9) and the Eddyville Christmas program (Wednesday, December 12).
We usually play at the Majestic Theater in Corvallis in January (Martin Luther King celebration) and at the Polk County Music Festival (Rickreall) in February.  We will probably do a benefit concert in Corvallis during March (before spring break) and/or a concert in Eddyville to help pay for our trip to Seattle in April.   We are playing at the World Rhythm Festival in Seattle April 25 and 26.  This is a wonderful trip for the students because it offers an opportunity to see the world outside of Lincoln County.
We are seeking donations and ideas for fundraisers as our trip to Seattle will cost over $2,500 and we have to raise the money ourselves.  Last year the Booster Club was generous to us (they paid for the bus and driver) and our spaghetti dinner/auction plus donations from the community generated the rest of the money we needed.  This year we will spend two nights instead of one, which means the hotel will cost more than last year.
I am also hoping to produce a commercial quality CD (and perhaps a DVD) which we can sell throughout the year to generate funds for our trips and equipment needs.  We currently have 26 students in the drumming group and most of them will be going to Seattle.
