Freshman Success/Geography We will begin the year reading Sean Covey's the 7 habits of Highly Effective Teens and have discussions on how we can be successful students and citizens at ECS. We will also spend time familiarizing ourselves with Google Apps and Microsoft Office. Knowing how to write a paper is important, as is learning how collaborate with others whether in person or online. We will spend a month becoming bolder public speakers. the semester will end with us digging into how we can better seek truth in the media and how digital citizenship will impact your future.
Global Studies Ancient Egypt, Persia, the byzantine empire, Early African societies, the growth of Europe, the mongols and many Chinese dynasties. We will spend the vast majority of our year learning about the old world, the eastern hemisphere, its many stories, cultures, and religions. We will end the year discovering the new world, and the events that led to the age of exploration.
US history We will dig into my two favorite areas of history when I was a student. We will begin the year with the American revolution. Learn a little about my favorite person in American history, John Adams. Break down how the idea, Manifest Destiny, shaped our nation and brought on the civil war. My goal is to end the year with the civil rights movement and for us to reflect on where America sits today on social justice and diversity.
Senior Capstone Seniors will be doing research on a career topic of their choice this year. They will be participating in job shadows and planning and running a community project. We will take time to create a thesis statement and then write a research paper based on their topic. In the spring, our seniors will then present on their journey and hard work, sharing with us what they have learned and how they hope to take what they have learned into their post-high school futures.
